Urquidi, Isaac win council seats

Wednesday, November 7, 2001

Businesswoman Alain Isaac and teacher Richard Urquidi swept to convincing victories in the five-candidate race for two city council positions Tuesday night.

Incumbent Dawn Monasterio finished dead last.

Initial returns showed Urquidi, in his first effort at public office, as the top vote-getter on the evening, garnering 763 votes. Isaac followed with 648. The top two candidates would be elected with the seats of Monasterio and Grace Townsend, who elected not to run, open in the off-year election.

Following the winners was Fred Prouty, who had served more than two decades on the council but left for a term as a county commissioner. He garnered 448 votes. Tammy Downen earned 398 and Monasterio 395.
