Dear editor: I am 73 years old with a goal to live to be 100 since I was 10 years old. With the mess this country is in I'm only about 60 percent sure I was to be 100 years old. It was a good goal to be 100 years old in the Land of Freedom. However, we have lost so many freedoms that I'm not sure I want to be around another 27 years. Our country, as we think we know it, thanks to the do-gooders, politicians, religious nuts, vegetarians, global warming nuts, etc., may not be around in 2036!...

To Gov. Butch Otter's credit, every time he has ordered a holdback in state funding, due to declining state revenues, education has been asked to take less of a hit than other state agencies. But between the holdbacks, and funding constraints imposed by the legislature in the last five years (even when things were good), there is no question education is suffering...
Walmart evacuated Saturday due to bomb threat

The local Walmart closed for approximately three hours Saturday evening following a bomb threat at the store. An employee discovered a note in the store's electronics department around 9:45 p.m. saying a bomb was in the building and would explode within the next 72 hours, according to Police Sgt. Rick Viola, a spokesman with the Mountain Home Police Department...
State holdbacks put schools in 'grave' situation

Superintendent Tim McMurtrey asked the Mountain Home School Board Tuesday night to declare a financial emergency in the wake of a 1.6 percent holdback in state funds ordered by Gov. Butch Otter. The measure was expected to be approved by the board and eventually could lead to the district asking the voters to approve a special one-time supplemental property tax levy...
