A look at who has raised the debt ceiling the most, by the percentages. Once again I plan on not answering comments unless asked to.

Posted Friday, December 30, 2011, at 10:18 AM

While the number 16 trillion sounds spectacular, and it is, when one looks at the percentages since we started following supply side economics a different picture emerges. I believe the percentages reveal facts that many would just as soon ignore.

Make no mistake, whenever a new program is proposed, or a tax cut is proposed, or taking this Republic into armed conflict, it must be paid for, and issuing new debt DOES NOT pay for it. The percentage of debt vs GDP has reached untenable levels and must be addressed. While the time is long past to assign blame to any one party or president, this discussion ultimately rests on economic theories and and their effect on the debt. Which theory has increased the debt by the largest percentage?

With the black and white print right out there, some bloggers will continue to say it was solely Obama's fault.

Their HERO raised it 17 times (setting a record)

At this point, all of us will agree that it doesn't matter now who started it. How are they going to fix it?

I won't blame Obama for anything other than what he has actually done. This would include any other president.

We have members of Congress who need to wake up and smell the coffee. Quit posing and do something and not because it is an election year coming up.

If they cannot do the job, lets find someone who can.

STOP ZOOK...... WHAT YOU SAYING IS NOT TRUE.I DONT THINK THE INTENT IS TO POINT FINGERS AS IT IS TO SAY THAT EVERYONE HAS THERE CROSS TO BEAR,THE POLITICAL GAMENSHIP WITH THE DEPT CEILING IS WHAT THIS IS ABOUT.

ATTACKING IRAQ WAS A POLITICAL MOVE THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED,you deslike the U.N. so much why dont you look where the blame should be.The U.N. sanctioned and we responded as the policmen. We attacked a nation state for the act of terrorism that did not initate from that state.I hate to say this but 9 of those terrorist where from saudie arabia, and so was ben laden.DONT try to talk yourself into Bush had to respond by attacking IRAQ HE DID NOT,THAT IS A FALSE JUSTIFICATION FOR A POLITCAL IDEAOLOGY.THAT MAKES US FEEL BETTER ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO PAID THE PRICE, PRIMARILY THE FEELINGS OF OUR CASUALITIES AND SURVIVORS.I FEEL FOR THEM ALSO AND I AM VERY ANGRY ABOUT IT BUT IT DOESNT CHANGE THE LIE........THAT IS MY OPINION.

WE ATTACKED BECAUSE THE PUBLIC DEMANDED RETROBUTION,THE WMD THING GAVE US COVER AND THE APPEARANCE OF JUSTIFICATION.tHE CARPETBAGGERS MADE BILLIONS AND WE BURIED OUR CHILDREN WE WILL PAY FOR THAT WAR FOR GENERATIONS IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE.

I will bet he will NOT use a NUKE.......it will make him and OUTLAW and I dont think the rest of the ARAB states are in love with him......The ISRAELIES WILL DO WHAT THEY HAVE TO. WE WILL HAVE THERE BACK AND THEY KNOW THAT.ALL the political rhetoric in the world will not stop this president from protecting ISRAEL......the words were and attempt to get everyone to sit down and talk.

Problem is we have expended so much energy on iraq we are thin...if stupid was going to do something he would have done it,besides he is a figure head and that is all.

The point here is the dept ceiling we can justify till tomorrow, but everyone has had a hand in raising that ceiling how much and how often and for what is the issue. You have said it before we cannot lay this all at this presidents doorstep,However he is the one in the chair.

YOU really bother me with what seems to be your need to use nukes, you need to go to japan and see what those weapons do and there long term affect. That statement has nothing to do with justification so dont go there.Believe me pictures dont tell the story at all.

last........any admonishment will be for political show and thats all.If we were serious in that area we would have put sanctions on Israel a long time ago.......have a great NEW YEAR AND BE SAFE......got to play the bardenay in boise, always a great night and he donates the whole night to the homeless....and no he is not a liberal and we have great conversations without insults of any kind like you and I..... I DO APPRECIATE THAT.........LATTER

When President Obama wasn't President he said:

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure," he said. "It is a sign that the U.S. Government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. ... Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit."

I'm an almost 61 year old transplant from California 6 1/2 years ago. I work in road construction, those dastardly flaggers. My family roots go back to New England farms, not the big city. The last town I lived in when in California grew from 16K to 40K in 10 years, and that was enough to drive me out. I don't engage in or tolerate name calling. Name calling reduces an adult discussion to grade school play yard level. I have never served in the military, but have family members who have, dating back to WW1. I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican. I am neither extremely Liberal or Conservative. I am raising my 16 year old grandson, not what I expected at this age, and dealing with those issues as well as my health and near retirement which are 2 things I intend to talk about. I decided to try my hand at this thanks to the warm welcome I have received on Mike's blog. When I take a position, I will defend it until I am shown that I am mistaken, and when that happens, I apologize. There are other things about me that will come out over time I'm sure.
