Can anyone give a rational justification for this situation????

Posted Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at 1:02 PM

In the past I have been branded as a liberal because of my views on social issues. If the fact that I find the numbers in the article I'm going to link to, wrong on every possible every possible level makes me a liberal, so be it. I wear the label proudly. But remember, if you also condemn the numbers, you also will be labeled a liberal.

Yes, times are hard. I know that! I also know that there is no way any private or religious set of organizations could ever hope to deal with these kind of numbers. Now the questions are, What is the solution? Do we as a nation have any responsibility to address this issue?, and if so how?

I firmly believe the comments that will be posted will be a true reflection of the morals and ethics of todays divided society.

You should know by now there are only two different political affiliations on the Mountain Home News.

Group #1. Low down, dirty, rotten, miserable, misguided, idiots of the Liberal persuasion.

Group #2. The saintly, upstanding, completely infallible Tea Party folks.

If you are not 100% on-board with Group #2, you can't be anything other than a card carrying member of Group #1.

CJW, did you miss the part that said she held a job and supported her children? Or that she at one time owned 4 businesses? You chose to zero in on the person, I zeroed in on a real problem that you failed to address. Personal responsibility has nothing to do with the fact that growing numbers are homeless through no fault of their own. Businesses fail, but more are failing everyday leaving many more people in her situation.

If your answer to the overall situation is life sucks, deal with it, fine, but at least come out and say just that.

Looks like some of us are just one generation away from becoming extinct.

My poor, barefoot, Democratic voting mother bore eleven children...all of whom are self supporting: a Catholic priest, three career soldiers, a Lithia Group regional manager, computer manufacturer assembly worker, recreational vehicle dealer, high school teacher, automobile repair shop owner and two homemakers.

For three years we collected food stamps and lived in HUD apartments while the older kids shined shoes, delivered papers and bottled milk, cut grass, shoveled snow, or any other odd job that helped put something better than worn out hand-me-downs on the backs of the youngsters.

With the exception of the priest and the school teacher, the siblings have bred like bunnies and their grandkids are creating their own futures.

Guess what? Not a living soul among them is living off the government teat...they all work and pay their tax.

CJW. My mother was, by your definition on this thread, irresponsible.

I'm an almost 61 year old transplant from California 6 1/2 years ago. I work in road construction, those dastardly flaggers. My family roots go back to New England farms, not the big city. The last town I lived in when in California grew from 16K to 40K in 10 years, and that was enough to drive me out. I don't engage in or tolerate name calling. Name calling reduces an adult discussion to grade school play yard level. I have never served in the military, but have family members who have, dating back to WW1. I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican. I am neither extremely Liberal or Conservative. I am raising my 16 year old grandson, not what I expected at this age, and dealing with those issues as well as my health and near retirement which are 2 things I intend to talk about. I decided to try my hand at this thanks to the warm welcome I have received on Mike's blog. When I take a position, I will defend it until I am shown that I am mistaken, and when that happens, I apologize. There are other things about me that will come out over time I'm sure.
