    1. I have a job that I enjoy right now, paid OK. So, if offered a job right now, I would only change if the pay was considerably higher, for job I would still enjoy, ALONG WITH continued stability (job security) as I was raised in Mtn. Home. I plan to stay.

    2. I already live off S 18th, so I would just hop on 18th and head South.

    3. Number 3 is a hard question. I personally like the sleepy mid - sized "Norman Rockwell" kind of town I grew up in. I know that that town is back in my "Wonder Years" and I realize we may need to consider growth to prosper.

    4. If left to me, our little town would continue as it is, with some progress, and merchants would do better financially so that in turn, they could help support our youth like they would love to. What comes around, goes around.

In my dream town, merchants would be able to offer competitive prices as in larger cities, and consumers would shop in their own town, rather than going to Boise, for instance. The town would be all hustle and bustle, with people chatting on the sidewalks with sodas and icecream cones in hand and greet one another by name.

I'm not ashamed to say I wish for the old days, and the town I grew up in, that I raised my children in, and my children will raise my Grandchildren in. However I don't want to hold any of them back, and they will need the same opportunites and experiences of a larger city, to achieve their own dreams.

  • Kudos to you Tim. If more folks would take the time to become educated in the needs/wants of others, the world would be a better place. I am a 54 year old male, full time student at BSU, and my wife and I have raised our two children in Mountain Home. I spend all day with people of your age range and have found that most care about the opinions of others. I have been pleasantly surprised at how well I have been received into that community. Thanks for caring.

    1. If offered a job right now, would you take the job solely for financial gain (wage being major consideration) or to support a family (wage being rather minor but rather stability being the primary concern).

Wages and stability are important, but come in second to doing what I enjoy. If I have a job I hate I come home every day in a miserable mood.

    2. Leaving traffic and inevitable congestion aside what route would you take to get to the site at Goldsmith Road. It is at the southern extreme of SE 18th.

I live off of North 18th so I would take 18th all the way

    3. Putting the environment on the back burner, do you like the idea of Mtn. Home being a sleepy mid-size town or one that grows and resembles Twin Falls.

I enjoy Mountain Home as it is now. Not real small but small enough to maintain the atmosphere and quality of life. If it were to grow substantially I would have to move to Boise where my wife and I commute daily.

    4. Finally, with the amount of tax revenue being some random number where would you like it to go if it was only up to you.

Obviously I would enjoy the amenities of a higher tax base, but I am unwilling to trade my lifestyle for those amenities. I have to weigh the benefits to my family verses the status quo. Bigger is not always better.

With the current economic situation, and having lived through this in the past, I would have to select stability of financial gain.

    2. Leaving traffic and inevitable congestion aside what route would you take to get to the site at Goldsmith Road. It is at the southern extreme of SE 18th.

    HWY 30 to Goldsmith

I love Mt Home for many reasons, one of them being the small town feel but there needs to be growth for the town to sustain itself. The airbase cannot be the only major industry in this area.

    4. Finally, with the amount of tax revenue being some random number where would you like it to go if it was only up to you.

I am not sure on this one but it would be nice to have it rise with no to little effect on the citizens.

    A. No. Been there-done that. Money does not make a person happy, IMO.

    2. Leaving traffic and inevitable congestion aside what route would you take to get to the site at Goldsmith Road. It is at the southern extreme of SE 18th.

    A. HWY 30 to Goldsmith

    A. We need growth but it needs to have some sense behind it. We need diverse jobs. We need more shops/stores so business can stay local but at the same time prices need to be in line (to a point) with Boise. If you can buy something for 60% less is Boise, you will take the ride. Some live here because it is still a "small town" but we could grow a little with a good, solid plan and still be a "small town." We need to be sure that growth does not kill our future however. The environment and land use must be looked at and reviewed to preserve what we have (all IMO only of course).

    4. Finally, with the amount of tax revenue being some random number where would you like it to go if it was only up to you.

    A. Montana, Wyoming or Utah.

  • the reason for the first question is that if wage is your sole concern, then the developer will know to limit the number of jobs so that wages can be kept high. If the concern is solely stability, then they will know to keep wages low to accommodate a job that may last longer and not be prone to recessions or booms for that matter. Those who have families like stability and a predictable paycheck regardless of the wage. The lower wage will spread out the time horizon postponing the potential for layoffs.
