School kindergarten program gains bikes

Daniel Martin, the physical education teacher at West Elementary School, led a procession of kindergarten students around the school’s gymnasium Nov. 19. Each of them rode on bicycles they never expected to see that day.

It began minutes before as school staff members and these young students gathered for an assembly in the gym. The curtains on the stage remained drawn together, hiding a collection of balance bikes waiting to be revealed.

The assembly began as the school’s principal, Nichole Cruser, told the children a surprise waited for them behind those curtains.
