Bob Chaney, loving husband, son, dad, grandfather, and friend, passed away at his home with his wife and dad by his side on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the age of 71. Bob was born in Ipswich, England, on July 29, 1954. The son of Robert and Maureen (Freeman) Chaney, he married Jan Machul on August 6, 1994. Bob was a 1974 Mountain Home High School graduate. He worked at Safeway in Mountain Home from 1974 to 1985. He then went to the Police Officers Standard Training Academy (POST). On completion of training, he became a road deputy in 1985 for the Elmore County Sheriff’s Department. In 2006, he became a Detective for the department, which is where he stayed until his retirement in 2010. Retirement was great, but he missed law-enforcement. He became a Citizens on Patrol for our Mountain Home Community from 2013 to 2023 in his spare time. Bob loved his jeep and going off-road on all trips, always fascinated with cars. He had a huge model hobby where he spent hours putting them all together.

He is survived by his wife, Jan, two sons, Chad Chaney (Jennifer) and John Chaney, his grandson, Joseph Chaney, his father, Robert (Bob) Chaney, his extended family, Sarah Stromer (Nick), Jason, Carlton, Stacy Groves (Abe) Stephen Carlton (Mai), grandchildren Stephen, Brandon, Max, Haley, and Nicholas. Great-grandchildren, Paisley and Stephen. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Maureen (Freeman) Chaney, his sister Karen Sue Chaney, and his grandparents, both Chaney and Freeman. Service for Bob will be on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Viewing at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m., and after the service, going to the cemetery for burial. View and service will be held at the First Congregational Church located at 515 E. 15th N in Mountain Home. Luncheon to follow at the church after the graveside service. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Horizon Home Healthcare team in Mountain Home. They were all a true blessing for Bob, with special thanks going to Jessica and Shilo. You brought him much comfort and laughter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBD) or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
