Mayor needs to explain fiber fee issues

Wednesday, July 30, 2025

Where is Mayor Sykes and city hall’s explanation on this issue?

Due to a social media post, a citizen reaching out with a concern and a citizen’s three minutes of recognizing persons in the audience at a city council meeting, it was revealed that the city was collecting fiber fees twice. The city charged the builder $1,195 for fiber installation, and the homeowner later received an assessment for $3,229.67. These double charges have appeared in the Silverstone 2 subdivision on Raelynn Street.

The city has since sent 14 letters, dated July 17, 2025, so far to homes stating they will be receiving checks for $1,195, but remain responsible for the full Lid#1 assessment amount of $3,229.67. How many others have been overcharged? Where is the transparency from Mayor Sykes and city hall?

This is collaboration by the citizens working together to expose this.

Please check your paperwork from city hall, and do a public records request for new building permits on your address to determine what fees the builder paid.

Why did Mayor Sykes not explain this on his one-sided video called “Mondays with the Mayor” on July 21? Thank goodness city council tabled LID#2!

Take time to e-mail Mayor Sykes at mayor@mountain-home.us, or call city hall at (208) 587-2104 with your questions.
