Younger participants dart from the starting line as they take part in the Freedom for Fighters event on June 21. Tammy Barney, founder of this local movement, emphasized that it focuses on encouraging people to complete the trek along this five-kilometer community walkway versus focusing solely on being the first to reach the finish line.

Days after a record number of people gathered along the community walking path on the north side of town as they took part in this year’s Freedom for Fighters event, organizers paused to reflect on how this effort provides needed help to military veterans and first responders.
The Eighth Annual Freedom For Fighters walk and run on June 21 had 116 people already signed up before the event began with others signing up that morning, which shattered the previous record of 90 participants that took part in last year’s event.
