Letter to the Editor

You heard him, put a stop sign on Foster Dr.

Wednesday, June 11, 2025

I’d like to address my letter to John Engebretson as well as his wife and the residents living on Foster Drive with regards to installing a stop sign on the road as mentioned in a letter to the editor in the May 7 edition of the Mountain Home News.

I’m not sure whose jurisdiction your property falls under, whether it be the City of Mountain Home or Elmore County. It sounds to me like you’ve been “beating a dead horse” for more than four years now. I am sorry to read about your predicament with both of these government entities, who hold the power to assist you by installing a necessary stop sign on your road. I’m not surprised – it’s their M.O.

Get on the agenda with the Mountain Home city council or the Elmore County commissioners. Set the date and have all the residents who signed your petition to get a necessary stop sign up up appear on their agendas. Put pressure on them.

These public servants will tell you anything to appease you only to pass the buck. It’s a common, well-known practice. I’m not surprised you’re facing this challenge.

They don’t see your “safety for all” as a priority. I find that pathetic and ridiculous.

It doesn’t cost that much money for a stop sign or to pay a public works employee to install it.

Our elected officials and public servants should be proactive with their duties, obligations and responsibilities. They will tell you what you want to hea, and that’s about as far as it goes, Mr. Engebretson.

Unfortunately, a situation like yours may become a tragedy.

You have my support, and I hope you continue to “ruffle feathers” until someone gets off their derriere and installs a stop sign on Foster Drive.
