Glenna Marie Engkraf

Glenna Marie Engkraf was born on April 21, 1939 in Rupert, Idaho. Glenna was the second daughter to Joseph and Regina Engkraf and the little sister to her beloved Donnie. Glenna attended elementary and high school in Rupert and excelled in athletics. Her favorite sport was softball, and she graduated High School in 1957. Glenna attended Idaho State University, graduating with a degree in Education in 1961. She was the swimming instructor there for her first two years, and she served in the men's dining hall as well to help pay her tuition. She worked summers at the Rupert Drug Store to pay her last two years at Idaho State. Her mom and dad didn't think Glenna would make it the first couple years. She loved school, and they were so proud of her they started giving her $30 each month from then on. After college, Glenna was hired as the physical education instructor at Riverside Junior High in Riverside, California. Her contract was for $5000 and that was "big money" back then. She decided California was a long drive back home to Rupert, taking her 2 days. She transitioned to a teaching position in Las Vegas the next year. Glenna first taught physical education and was the coach for the swim team at Nevada Junior High. One year later, she moved to Valley High School to instruct physical education, and she was also the tennis coach. And the very next year, she was the softball coach and physical education teacher at Chaparral High School. Her last move was to Bonanza High School, where she remained for 30 years, teaching physical education and coaching softball. Glenna was also the Las Vegas Department Coordinator for curriculum and a Driver's Education instructor at Bonanza High School. The highlight of Glenna's travels was being a member of the softball team sponsored by a Las Vegas casino, picked to travel to New Zealand. The team stayed with host families, and the food was very different from the food in the United States. She said she nearly starved to death, and she craved her mom's cooking every day! They played many softball teams in that area, and of course, she caught for every game! Glenna was very fortunate to retire at age 52, and traveling with Beverly was always an adventure. They had a motorhome they traveled in, and their favorite destination was Mackay, Idaho. They would stay for weeks and even had some local friends there to visit. Glenna said over and over again that she LOVED living in Las Vegas. She had many friends there, and she loved the culture and the surrounding mountains. Glenna is survived by her nieces, Toni Reynolds, Regina Covington, and Carla O'Neal, and three nephews, Randy Reynolds, Steve Reynolds, and David Reynolds, and their families. Glenna was preceded in death by her sister, Donnetta Reynolds, and her nephew, Mike Reynolds.
