Stop drivers from speeding on Foster Drive
My wife and I have lived in Mountain Home for years on Foster Drive, which runs through city and county limits. The speed limit is 25 miles per hour from Haskett to Bradford streets – a stretch of approximately one mile with no stop signs.
Very seldom do we see drivers who obey the 25 mile per hour speed limit. My wife and I have witnessed people drive in excess of 60 miles per hour.
I have contacted the Elmore County Sheriff’s Department and spoke with the city police about this speeding problem. I got nowhere with that.
I contacted county and city road departments about the necessity of stop signs on Foster Drive. I got nowhere with that.
I then brought it up at the county meeting well over a year ago and spoke directly with the city road superintendent. He told me he would talk with the county and get back to me. I never heard any response.
Finally and four years of getting nowhere, I wrote a letter to the county commissioners with a petition signed by almost every resident on Foster Drive stating the importance of stop signs on Foster and Garrett roads and Foster and Jerome roads. I had it certified and hand delivered to the county office.
To this day, I have not heard from any county or city official.
There are families pushing baby carriages and walking with small children down Foster Drive along with numerous dog walkers. It’s only a matter of time when, not if, something tragic happens. It’s my strong feeling that all departments mentioned in this letter be held accountable.
I hope I have ruffled some feathers, because mine sure are.
