On November 6th, 2022, a hunter in a remote area of mountains north of Atlanta accidentally shot himself in the arm causing significant traumatic injury. Using satellite based texting, his partner was able to reach out to the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office for help. After performing initial triage and dispatching several modes of transportation, Erik Johnsen of dispatch shifted gears and transitioned from his role of answering a call and getting resources en-route to a role of providing pre-arrival instructions, assessing patient condition, and offering follow-up medical guidance as necessary.
