Oh my Valentine

In case you weren’t aware today is Valentine’s day. The day you surprise your sweetheart with whatever their heart desires, or chocolate and roses, the basic route. Valentine’s day was originally a saint’s day though, rather than the day to cherish your current partner, it used to be a feast day to celebrate martyrdom, some evangelical doctrines, such as Lutherans, still participate in feast day.

There are numerous stories and legends that surround the day celebrating love. It so happened to be that the name Valentine was actually quite a popular name back in the day. There are actually two different St. Valentines that are buried under the Via Flaminia Basilica outside of Rome, Italy. Although the New Minister in Winchester is said to have a relic of the preserved head of Valentine of Terni, the Santa Maria Basilica is said to have relics of Valentine of Rome.
