Good Samaritans

Wednesday, January 24, 2024

Dear Mountain Home Newspaper readers/subscribers,

On January 13, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., I stepped out front to see if it was still snowing. I noticed a passenger vehicle was driving westbound on E. 5th Ave (GF) towards N. Logan Street. The driver could not make the (small) grade as he/she approached the stop sign. The driver then attempted to turn around and was doing okay until they got stuck in the heavy snow. I stood watching; no one got out of the stranded vehicle but did turn on their emergency flashers.

What if these folks have children/pets inside, or elderly, and maybe out-of-towners attempting to find their way through Glenn’s Ferry? I made a call to non-emergency dispatch. It was well over 10 minutes as they sat there not knowing what to do. As I was on the phone with dispatch, along came a full-sized pickup truck that saw the stranded vehicle.

The two Good Samaritans spent x amount of time attempting to shovel them out. When this didn’t work, the Good Sams (using critical thinking skills) hooked up the stranded vehicle using chains and pulled them out safely.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is our civic duty, obligation, and responsibility to ‘lend a helping hand to those in need.’ I did stay in touch with dispatch during my observations of this occurrence, which was over one hour. Once the stuck-in-the-snow vehicle was rescued, I notified 911. The female dispatcher said: ‘Thank you, Rhonda.’

But the applause and commendation goes to the two Good Samaritans of Glenns Ferry who are deserving of the thank you! This is an example of what our Creator wants us to do, and boy do I comply with God Almighty!

In my heart, God sent down his angels. Think about that for just a moment. Haven’t we all had angel moments? Of course!

No love like love for children, No power like God’s power.
