What the Library means to me

Wednesday, January 24, 2024

My Mother taught me that a library is a special place. She was a child during the Great Depression and had very little. Little food, cardboard in shoes, no electricity, and little wood for heat. The Library was the place she could walk to for books to read for an escape from hard times. From this experience she instilled in me that I too, could find many great things in a library. From our branch library to the main library in downtown Portland.

Then I moved to Mountain Home and lived across from the old Carnegie Library. Oh, what a joy I felt when I met Mrs. Rubery. I was a single mom and she welcomed me and my small daughter with open arms.
