Kay Marlene Spolski

Kay Marlene Spolski, 77 of Mtn. Home, Idaho passed away peacefully Jan. 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was the youngest of her family, born Aug. 29, 1946, in Lovelock, Nevada to John and Lucille Smulligan. She spent her childhood split between Nevada and Pennsylvania. In 1964 Kay graduated high school in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. She met Paul Spolski at a city dance in Lakeside, Pennsylvania. Paul says he knew when he saw her at the dance, she was the one for him. The two would later marry in June of 1969.

While her husband was stationed at Langley AFB, Virginia, they would have their first child, a daughter, Carrie. After receiving orders to Hahn AFB, Germany, they would have their second child, Christopher. They enjoyed traveling across Europe, visiting many countries throughout their years overseas. Kay especially loved the Gouda cheese from Holland and wine tasting at a favorite vineyard in Germany. After spending 4 years overseas, the family was transferred to Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. This is where they would have their third child, Curtis. Being their last assignment, they settled in Mountain Home to raise the family and enjoyed the beautiful scenery Idaho has to offer.

Kay was a homemaker, raising her children and babysitting neighborhood kids until her children were grown. She then went back to work for the House of Flowers shop, delivering flowers around town for 12 years. She then moved on to the local Walmart the year it opened in town. She would work another 15 years before finally retiring with her husband in 2015.

Kay loved the outdoors, especially family trips when the kids were young, such as camping, fishing and cross country road trips. Many of which were memorable adventures cherished by her family to this day. In their retired years, she and her husband loved riding ATVs around the Sawtooth and Trinity Mountains.

Kay was a talker! She could hold a conversation with any stranger and talk to them like they were old friends. She loved being around her family and participating in the many events that happen as families grow. She was very affectionate to everyone; hugs and kisses were the expected greetings and departures for everyone. She also never turned down a good drink at family gatherings.

One staple of her personality that was easily recognizable was the bright and vibrant nails she was always sporting. Getting her nails done every few weeks was one of her favorite things.

She was always a die hard sports fan for her local BSU Broncos, as well as any Pennsylvania based football and hockey teams. She was as passionate a fan as they come, and could often be heard throughout the house shouting commands at the players through the television.

She is survived by her husband Paul, her daughter Carrie (William Darkes), her two sons Christopher (Isabel) and Curtis. Two grandsons Skyler Darkes (Cassie) and Ryan Darkes (Sekoya), and her two great grandchildren Raelynn and Carter. She was so loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Services will be on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Rost Funeral Chapel.
