Mountain Home City Council Meeting

Wednesday, January 17, 2024

1.9.24 - During the January 9th Council meeting, Councilmen Bundy and Green were thanked by the Mayor and fellow Council members for their dedication to the City of Mountain Home. Mayor Sykes was then sworn in for his third term, and Jenny Wirkkala and Scott Harjo were sworn into the City Council. After the new members had taken their positions at the Chamber’s front, the Council voted for Daniel Brennan to be the President of the Council.

There were three members of the audience that presented to the Council. A resident wanted to better understand how his neighbors were able to use their home as an airbnb since he lives in a residential area and not a commercial area. He shared that the neighborhood was not respected by people that are renting the house and wanted to know if there was a way to fix this. Two citizens then discussed issues with Fiber cables that they had seen and other Fiber issues.

Councilwoman Wirkkala motioned to have a public comment at the beginning of the meeting, and to address the Mayor’s 50k spending budget for the next meeting’s agenda.

Councilmen Harjo asked to discuss the Fiber project and to initiate council workshops that would consist of training for the council members. These will be planned between the council members, for future workshops and training sessions. Workshops will be posted for the public on the board in the front of Council Chambers. It was suggested by the city legal team to have the workshops on the same days as the City Council meetings. These workshops will be determined at a later time.
