Commissioner Meeting 1.5.24

The County Commissioner meeting was held on January 5, 2024 in the basement Commissioner Chambers. A quorum was established and the meeting began at 9am. The first item on the agenda was the administrative meeting containing departmental issues, public comment, indigent matters, old business/correspondence, HR matters/employee payroll changes resolutions, and a remodel of Forest Service Building. During employee payroll changes, a motion was made and approved to give Christopher Adams, from IT, a raise that had been negotiated at the time of his contract.

The action items are as follows: approval of expenses - approved, approval of bi-weekly payroll for December 29, 2023 and general payroll for December 29, 2023 - approved, approval of minutes for December 22, 2023 minutes - approved, certificates of residencey - approved, establishment of election precincts for 2023 - approved, casualty loss application via Josh Dison - approved.

Following the action items was a presentation and discussion of emergency repairs for King Hill Irrigation District by Jeff Blanksma. This was a request for assistance with funding for the emergency repairs t0 sections of the fortified concrete pipes that are currently too large for their current intended purposes. King Hill Irrigation intends to replace these, a project that would cost approximately $1.8 million. King Hill Irrigation is not requesting the full amount from the county, and intends to outsource through grants. They have the history and past experience with similar situations where a majority of the project was funded by mentioned grants. King Hill Irrigation will be at the January 12, 2024 meeting at 10:45 for a follow up conversation with the commissioners.

The department heads and elected officials then had their meeting in which they discussed the past year, where they currently are standing in the county with projects and updates. They also discussed the King Hill contaminated water.

There was a request for pay increases for Groomer Operators requested by Curt Kaneaster. Hofer - Aye. Corbus - Aye. Rodgers - Nay.

This was followed by the request for a Variance Fee Waiver presented by Kacey Ramsauer - passed.

The final item from the agenda addressed, was a presentation/discussion with Republic Services to operate the Bennett Road Transfer Station. There will be a follow up work session in a future meeting.

The next County Commissioner meeting will be held Jan. 12, 2024 in the Commissioners’ Room, in the basement of the Elmore County Courthouse, 150 South 4th East.
