Special County Commissioners Meeting - November 10, 2022

Wednesday, November 16, 2022

Due to the observation of Veterans Day on Friday, the County Commissioners, save Commissioner Hofer, met in a special session on Thursday morning. The meeting was fairly brief, but covered a handful of topics.

The Commissioners reviewed and approved the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections Statistical Report. After this the commissioners present congratulated and expressed their gratitude to Penney Checketts-Lee, an employee of the county who reached the 25 year mark in her service to the county.

Following this, the Commissioners heard from Christy Accord who, speaking on behalf of the Glenns Ferry Highway District, came seeking the county’s support in a commercial traffic diversion project. She explained that Glenns Ferry has had issues with commercial traffic influx due to a low-height underpass. A number of commercial vehicles have struck the underpass.

It was also noted that the underpass failed a safety inspection conducted by the Idaho Transportation Department. Accord and the Glenns Ferry Highway District sought support of Elmore County in their project. Commissioner Corbus and Rodgers both agreed that the matter was important, and a matter of public safety; they agreed that a letter of support could be issued as a first step in supporting the project.

Accord left armed with new information and support from Elmore County. Following her, County Clerk Shelley Essl was happy to report that this year’s election went off without a hitch. She noted that it was her “smoothest election ever”.

Next, the Commissioners were briefed on proposed plans for clothing and phone allowance within the county. No decisions were made as the commissioners wished to take time to consider the proposed plans and amounts.

This concluded the meeting, and a motion to adjourn was made.
