Letter to the Editor - Reader urges leadership to clean up

Wednesday, October 5, 2022

I just want to let everyone in Mountain Home know about a wonderful, exciting racing event in your area. I've had the opportunity to attend many races at the Mountain Home Speedway this past summer, and what a fun family event. There are several classes of cars out racing each week, and drivers have a loyal fan base that cheer on their favorites each week. Drivers have created a family environment, helping each other keep their cars going and showing sportsmanship; that is a great example for the many children that attend weekly events. Mountain Home is quite lucky to have this racing event opportunity in their backyard. However, while most drivers and event coordinators are trustworthy, and show great integrity there is an element that threatens the safety and integrity of the track and the drivers that participate each week.

My son was invited to come out and race, so he bought a vehicle and began racing. He won three of the four race events he attended. But, he wasn't the favorite to win the championship, he was deliberately undermined, made fun of, mocked, and ultimately wrecked; taking him out of the opportunity to win the championship. It was hurtful to see the hurt and betrayal in his eyes. Those reading this may think I'm a mom who is angry, and it is true I was, but I know who really won.

After much prayer, I felt lead to write this because I really think Mountain Home has something special, and with good leadership this can be an exceptional family event. Every week that I attended there were more fans. I really enjoyed the last event that honored our military. It was a super celebration of men and women that represent the best of society. This can be a positive fun place for families and children who may be inspired to want to race someday. Leadership of this track, please clean it up, develop the integrity, expectation of fairness, and safety for the future drivers. As for my son, he has a bright future, and will continue to race on a paved track.
