Nancy Martin obituary Nancy J. Martin, 92, of Mountain Home, passed away Aug. 22, 2022. Services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, Mountain Home. Cremation is under the care of Rost Funeral Home McMurtrey Chapel.

Nancy was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Abington Township, Pennsylvania to Gerald and Sara Crowell, the middle child of three. After high school, Nancy attended the Methodist Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she became a Registered Nurse. She later joined the United States Air Force where she met James H. Martin, and they married June 18, 1951, at Lackland AFB, Texas. They soon welcomed the first of five children. Over the course of their military career, they traveled to France, Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina, Kansas, and Idaho, where they chose to retire and make Mountain Home their permanent residence.

Nancy worked as an RN for many years at St. Luke’s Elmore Hospital and nursing home. Besides working as a nurse and raising five children, Nancy always found time to volunteer throughout the community. Her motto was, “If I am not giving back, then why am I here.” She volunteered at the Mountain Home Visitor’s Center, the Mountain Home Arts Council, the Western Elmore County Rec District, the First Congregational Church where she gave the children’s sermons, and the school district where she shared her love of reading by helping elementary students learn to read. She was also a member of the Mountain Home TOPS and the Mountain Home Writer’s Group. Nancy was an avid reader and writer, and her stories and poems brightened the lives of many people.

Nancy is survived by her sons, James Martin and his wife Sharell, of Anaheim, CA; Christopher Martin of Mountain Home; a daughter, Janell Oehlsen of Mountain Home; son-in-law Michael Oehlsen of Mountain Home; daughter-in-law Susan Stanek of Mountain Home, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James Martin; two sons, Patrick Martin and Larry Martin; grandson Ian Martin, granddaughter, Jennifer Oehlsen, her parents, and siblings, Jerry and Sally.

Many thanks to her special friend Janice Gipson and to The Cottages Assisted Living of Mountain Home for taking such good care of Nancy. Gifts may be made in Nancy’s memory to the Mountain Home Arts Council or Mountain Home Senior Citizen Center (Meals on Wheels).
