Sheriff's office reports death of 82-year-old man in Elmore County wilderness

7.25.22 - On July 21, 2022, at approximately 1:50 p.m., Elmore County Dispatch received a report of a possible deceased individual that was located in the Wilderness Recreation Area at the northern part of Elmore County.

Boise County Sheriff’s Office was first advised by the reporting party, who had ridden out north towards Boise County to advise emergency services. Information that Elmore County dispatch received was that the two males were riding on mules in the Wilderness Area approximately ½ mile from the Elmore County and Boise County line. Boise County was told that the victim was thrown from the mule and had sustained a possible head injury. Lifesaving methods were performed by the friend with no prevail. In this situation utilizing air assistance was the most feasible resource due to the remoteness and deadfall from trees on the trail. The distance was approximately 9.5 miles from the Queens River trail head to where the victim was located making a foot recovery extremely difficult.

With the help of the Boise County Sheriff’s Office, Boise County Search and Rescue as well as Elmore County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and the Elmore County Corner they were able to utilize a privately owned Helicopter company that aided help in getting the victim safely off of the mountain and released to the Elmore County Corner’s custody. The victim is only going to be identified as an 82-year-old male, his identity is not being released at this time until next of kin can be notified.This is an ongoing investigation. No further information will be released
