Wednesday, May 18, 2022

As we approach Memorial Day, let us consider the long and proud history of Elmore County’s veterans. Elmore County itself may well be named for the Revolutionary War veteran John Archer Elmore. The path of this name seems to run from Gen. Elmore to the Elmore mining district in Alabama to the Elmore mine in Rocky Bar to Elmore County.

The Civil War was raging when the Idaho Territory was formed in 1863. The Mountain View Cemetery is the final resting place of veterans from both the Civil War and the Spanish American War, but their stories are largely lost to us.
