Jury reaches verdict in Ruiz-Ortiz trial

After many delays due to Covid19 and circumstances, the long-awaited trial of Daniel Ruiz-Ortiz finally started last week on Wednesday, April 20th. The trial was overseen by Judge Madema, and included a 14-person jury including two alternates, an interpreter, attorneys, and the defendant. Both the victim and defendants family members were also present in the courtroom.

Due to the complexity of the case, the return of Ruiz-Ortiz after fleeing the state with the couple's children, the trial finally, after a 4-day jury trial, ended last Wednesday, April 27.
