Boy Scouts celebrate 75th Camporee at Camp Wilson

Camp Wilson and the Boy Scouts of America have had a long tradition of scouting and barbecuing. This is the Mountain West Council Scout’s big event from April 29th to May 1st.

The Wilson family has owned this property for many years and this year is the 75th Anniversary.

Troops enjoy a great opportunity to camp, practice their Scout skills. Some of the events on Saturday the scouts will be doing in the patrol competitions are Archery, Fire Building from native materials in a timed event, First Aid and preparing for a realistic simulation., Obstacle Course competition, Pioneering (structure building) and animal tracking. It’s a hike in for the scouts then the final hike to the barbecue.

Back in the early days of Camp Wilson on Sunday after the close of the events and weekend campout, a large group of the parents of the Scouts got together and put on a potluck for the Scouts to reward them. Over the years, it has grown to the point of being a community wide event with financial support from many individuals and businesses in Mountain Home.
