HISTORY CORNER - Why are the roads so confusing in Mountain Home?

Wednesday, February 2, 2022

How many different 2nd Streets does Mountain Home boast? Four. There is East 2nd South, East 2nd North, South 2nd West, and North 2nd West. The same can be said for 3rd Street and many others. We have numbered streets running north-south and numbered streets running east-west. Of course, they inevitably collide in nutty intersections; you can be at the corner of 6th and 6th or the corner of 10th and 10th.

Imagine instead if Railroad Park was on Alturas Street, the Post Office was on Bennett Street, and the Courthouse was on Elmore Street. If the original downtown plan had stuck, we would have those names today, along with many other sensible names.
