Kathleen Helen “Kathy” Munro

Kathleen Helen “Kathy” Munro (Johnson), age 72, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at her home and favorite river retreat in Grand View. A Celebration of Life will be held at Rimrock High School in Grand View on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 12 P.M. Arrangements are under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and raised in Grafton, North Dakota, Kathy relocated to Idaho in 1968, where she met and fell in love with her partner for life, Larry. Following their marriage in 1968, they moved to Grand View, establishing roots and creating their family, their farm, and their life together. After a successful joint effort with Larry’s parents to build a farming and ranching operation, Larry and Kathy purchased their acreage together, allowing Larry the freedom to grow his business and Kathy the opportunity to join and support the Grand View community. After several years working for the Soil Conservation Service and Bell Telephone Company, she was hired as a receptionist when the Glenns Ferry-based Valley Health Care opened their first clinic in Grand View in 1984. Kathy was a natural in that role, where she developed a deep-seated love of helping the area’s residents get the best possible healthcare. For 33 years, Kathy made the first impression with a smile and left the last impression for the thousands of patients that received care at “The Clinic”. She took immense pride in supporting the community through her job and lending a helping and caring hand wherever she could.

More than anything, Kathy loved her family. Larry was the moon in her universe and her children were her stars, but they were quickly bumped to the back seat when grandchildren entered the picture. Kathy couldn’t get enough of the seven grandkids that kept her heart filled with joy. She shamelessly bragged about their accomplishments and enjoyed flying them around the country to broaden their horizons and keep the family connected.

Kathy’s favorite pastime was spending time with Larry. They loved road trips, being outdoors, watching good movies, and just being together. Quality time with her five siblings was also important to Kathy. Together, they created the most beautiful quilts, had the best laughs and cries, and simply reveled in each other’s company. Finally, there’s Kathy’s large circle of friends. She didn’t know any strangers and she prized the mutual support of many close friends. Kathy’s friends, family, and faith kept her strong and full of life.

Kathy is survived by her sons Kelly and wife Heidi Munro and Corey and wife Annette Munro, her daughter Kristen and husband Richard Bishop, and her grandchildren Vanessa, Camille, Samuel, and Andrew Munro; Philip and Kara Rahn, and Juniper Bishop. She is also survived by her brothers Brian and wife Linda and Mark and wife Holly Johnson and sisters Mary Beth and husband Joe Hassell, Jane and husband Marvin Sparrell, Vicki and husband David Capouch, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Hazel Johnson, her son-in-law Patrick Rahn, and Larry Munro, her husband of 37 years.
