Petition Approved on Mountain Home Mayor Recall

Wednesday, June 24, 2020

Last week we reported that a group seeking to recall Mountain Home Mayor Rich Sykes had formally submitted their petition to the city clerk. This action began the process of verifying signatures and registered voters status with responsibility of verification falling on the Elmore County Elections Clerk, and as of press time last week, those verifications had not been accomplished.

Following the initial process, a letter from the city clerk was issued on June 16 informing those seeking the recall that the petition to Recall Mayor Rich Sykes had been approved. Referencing the Idaho Codes that mandates this type of petition, the group has 75 days from June 16, that being August 31, 2020 at 5 p.m., to collect at least 1255 signatures of the registered voters within the city limits.
