School Board Approves Frau Cook's Student Exchange to Germany

Thursday, February 27, 2020

As part of a "Gap" exchange program, every two years several high school students from Germany come to Mountain Home High School to participate in classes and experience the American life. In exchange, Frau Cook's German language students take a turn visiting Germany for two weeks, attending class, living with host families, and experiencing European life.

Students raise their own money. This year $2200 per student will cover all costs, including flights, room and board, including 3 meals a day plus any unexpected expenses. But, each year Cook gives significant refunds upwards of $1700. Students have a year in advance to begin raising money. Funding is also secured by Cook through grants that may, for example, cover the cost of a group train trip on a special excursion.

  • There will be a correction to the refund possibilities, if any in this weeks Mountain Home News (March 4th edition) This amount was reported incorrectly and we apologize for any confusion. Their fund raising efforts of the reported $2200 is critical for each student.
