Mountain Home City Council Member Matthew Bundy has announced his candidacy as a Republican for State Representative Seat 23-A serving Elmore, Owyhee and Twin Falls counties.

Bundy has been active in local government, serving as a Commissioner on the Urban Renewal Agency Board and as a member of the Mountain Home City Council. He is also active in the Military Affairs Committee, Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served a 20-year career in the United States Air Force and moved to Mountain Home over 20 years ago while still a member of the military. He quickly became involved in the community as a volunteer coach for youth athletics and assisting with local scouting groups. Bundy started his aviation career in the B-52 and then transferred to the B-1 bomber. He deployed with the 366th Wing, located at Mountain Home Air Force Base, to the Middle East directly following 9/11. Following his military career, he has been active as a teacher and coach and educational leader at Mountain Home High School and has been the recipient of various teaching awards and accolades. A highlight of his career was working with the United States Department of State where he participated in a foreign teacher exchange and taught English in Mariupol, Ukraine. He has also participated in educational exchanges in Germany, South Korea and Jordan.

Bundy holds to the Republican ideal that Government is of the People, by the People and for the People. He feels his role is to protect our liberties and freedoms and to legislate in a way that enhances our ability to choose our own endeavors and be successful. "I love Idaho. The support I have received while making this decision to run has reinforced my desire to serve at the state level of Government. I have also been working with constituents from all three counties and I feel I have the background that will represent all three counties in a very positive way.” He also stated, “my local government experience will help in determining which issues are best addressed at the state level and which issues should be reserved for local communities.” He also feels his expertise in public education will give him unique insight into educational choice, funding and advanced educational opportunities. Bundy was the first high school teacher associated with Boise State University to have his American Government class recognized as a college level concurrent credit class. He continues to be a major proponent of state funded advanced learning initiatives. Additionally, his military background will be a major factor in continuing the positive relationships with local military facilities and personnel.

Representative seat 23-A is currently held by Representative Christy Zito (R) who recently announced she will be leaving the seat to seek the State Senate seat for District 23.
