Introducing our new Staff Writer

Wednesday, November 6, 2019

Editor’s Note: After searching for the right fit for what seems like forever, I am pleased to announce we have a new in-house staff writer again at the Mountain Home News.

There are a lot of parallels between when I began here as the staff writer a couple of years ago and Amy. Like me, she has grown up in the community of Elmore County and has strong family support in the area. In fact we’ve already found many ties between our two families.

Also, as when I began, she has concentrated on life as a mom for quite awhile and is already fully immersed in the community and is dedicated to helping make it a better place for the younger generation as she raises her family here.

She also comes to us with experience, as she has written for a small town, weekly newspaper before.

I am so excited to have her on staff here with us. You will be seeing her out and about helping me cover events and meetings here locally and when you do please give her a warm welcome.

Welcome to our newspaper family Amy!

by Amy Alexander

I grew up in Mountain Home with my three sisters, Rhonda, Sally and Elizabeth on a little farm on the outskirts of town. Many of you may know it as the ol' Fisher place. My folks, Ron and Andrea Fisher moved us to Mountain Home in 1983 after my Grandpa, Russel Ray Fisher was injured while branding cattle. It was an idyllic childhood full of outdoor adventures, animal husbandry, and family gatherings.

My husband, Joe Alexander, and I are raising our two little girls (ages 5 and 7) in that same farmhouse, now. We enjoy camping, fishing, and all things outdoors. It's good to have roots and be grounded after years of traveling and having fun.

I'm a Bronco and a Vandal. My undergraduate work was completed at Boise State University in Health Promotion, while my graduate work includes an Master of Science in Recreation as well as an Master of Education in Physical Education an Health from the University of Idaho.

During my career as a student I traveled overseas to Spain, Puerto Rico, Peru, Costa Rica, as well as Poland, England and a bus ride between the two. Out of all the places I've ever been, Idaho is by far the best. And Mountain Home is where my family and heart is. Looking forward to writing for you.
