Recently, Mountain Home FFA was able to host the first Boise Valley District competition of the 2019-2020 school year. The Boise Valley District includes Mountain Home FFA, Melba FFA, Rimrock FFA, Kuna FFA, Nampa FFA, and Meridian FFA.

On October 14, the six schools were able to come to Mountain Home to compete in the Milk Quality and Products Career Development Event (CDE) and Dairy Cattle CDE competitions.

Shaleah Lasuen, Tucker Blanksma, Dylan Taylor, and Drew Cotton made up the Mountain Home Milk Quality and Products Team with alternates of Grace Shieler and Emily Harper. During this competition, the students had 15 minutes to take a written test pertaining to the milk and dairy industry questions. After that, the students had to identify ten different kinds of cheeses, milk defects, fat percentages, and dairy versus non dairy products using taste, touch, smell and sight. Tucker Blanksma was ranked 5th high individual in dairy foods and Shaleah Lasuen placed 4th high individual. Mountain Home ranked 3rd overall in Milk Quality and Products.

Following the dairy foods competition, six dairy cattle judging teams as well as 64 alternates took a bus out to TLK Dairy to compete in Dairy Cattle Judging. Caelin Coggins, Kegan Reynolds, Kamryn Orr, and Vivianna Rodriguez made up the official Mountain Home Dairy Judging Team.

At this competition the students had to evaluate six different pens of cattle and rank them first through fourth place according to their confirmation. They had to judge the cows on their milk production, dairy characteristics, and structure. They also had to answer questions from a page containing cow milking statistics. From Mountain Home, Kamryn Orr was ranked 9th high individual and Caelin Coggins ranked 8th high individual and the Mountain Home Team placed third overall. A huge thank you was sent out to the TLK Dairy and the Ketterling family for helping organize as well as allowing us to compete at their dairy.
