Annual Cinco De Mayo celebration

Carl Miller Park came alive on Saturday May 4, as the Elmore County Hispanic Organization held its yearly Cinco De Mayo Celebration at the park from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Contrary to popular belief Cinco De Mayo is not the celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day, but rather in honor of the Battle of Puebla in 1862 when a small group of Mexicans took on Napoleons French forces during the Franco-Mexican War. The small force consisted of farmers and shop keepers, but they were able to fight off a large force of professionally trained French soldiers.
