Three Island Crossing event scaled back after accident

A historic reenactment honoring the thousands of pioneers who crossed the Snake River at Glenns Ferry in the late 1800s was cancelled although other activities will continue as planned on Saturday.

After a six-year absence, organizers had planned to resume the Three Island Crossing reenactment this weekend, but those plans changed after a horse drowned during a practice crossing near Three Island State Park on Sunday.

    You are so right. It was very sad to hear that they had this happen. I think Mother Nature sometimes is much stronger than we give her credit for and makes me think again of the reality of when this was going on as families made their way on the Oregon Trail. That this group of individuals gave up their time, resources and energy to attempt to share this very vital piece of history is commendable. This will still be a fun place to visit this weekend. Glenns Ferry has a charm of its own, the beautiful park and all the things they still have planned. Have a great weekend everyone and much success to those involved this weekend. B
