Rex Kite

Rex Charles Kite, age 97 of Mountain Home, passed away on July 25, 2016, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016, at the Christian & Baptist Church.

Inurnment with military honors by American Legion Post 26 will be held at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home. Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Rex was born Dec. 23, 1918, in Rigby, Idaho. His family moved to Nampa in 1922. He was schooled in Nampa at Kenwood School through fifth grade.

The family moved to Prairie where Rex graduated eighth grade at the Russel School. Rex went to high school in Grand View and graduated in 1938.

After high school, he worked on his parents' farm in Prairie. He also worked for a sawmill, the forest service and a sheep outfit.

Rex went into the U.S. Army in April 1942 and spent 3 1/2 years in Europe. In November 1947, he went to work for Idaho Power, where he retired after 33 years.

Rex married Rose Wasson on June 14, 1947, and together they had five children. They later divorced.

In 1958, Rex married Alice Annie Ardent and inherited five children. Alice passed away in 1988. Rex later married Jeannine Swanson, and she passed away in 2003.

Rex belonged to the VFW, Elks, The 40+8, American Legion, Mountain Home Senior Center and the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers. Rex took up the violin after retirement. He loved his music, his fiddle and playing his harmonica. He was a loving father and husband.

Rex is survived by his children Charlotte McKibbon, Delbert "DR" Kite and Vida Wiemer and stepchildren Ruthada Powell and Margret Bryson. He is also survived by 30 grandkids, 50 great-grandkids, 27 great-great-grandkids and two great-great-great-grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Sherrie Reynolds and Jack Kite; his stepsons, Ervin and Leo Gifford; and stepdaughter Evelyn Maybon.
