Wrestlers crush Knights in blowout

The Mountain Home Tigers dominated the mats as they crushed the Bishop Kelly Knights during a tournament Jan. 13.

In varsity action, the Tigers matmen overpowered the Knights, 69-6, with 12 individuals picking up wins.

Pierce Mederios won by fall just 1 minute, 17 seconds, into the match in the 113-pound weight class with Brad Keierleber picking up a win in the 145 division just 1 minute, 25 seconds, into that contest.

Others winning by falls were Alex Castro in the 152, Andrew Thornburg at 160 and Jayden Sexton in the 170 division.

Six varsity players won by forfeit against Bishop Kelly. They were Gavin Hazell in the 98-pound weight class, Hunter McCluskey in the 106, Kanoa Doronio at 120, Zack Slack in the 132 division, Dillon Park at 138, Taylor Ogaard at 220 and Jose Ortiz in the 285 divison.

Troy Elliot lost by decision in the 126-pound weight class while Daniel Cruz loss by decision in the 195.

Mountain Home's junior varsity team saw similar results against the Knights in their 66-10 victory with nine wrestlers earning wins. Winning by fall were Benny Vogl and Brandon Wussow in the 113-pound weight class; Hunter Thornberg in the 126; David Welle at 132; Ryan Grindle in the 138 division; Tyler Hardin, Austin Tetrault and Henry Bergstol at 152; and Jacob Pruit in the 160 division.

Johnathan Sprain lost by a decision in the 160-pound weight class while Tyler Durham lost by fall in the same division.

Sprain, who wrestled in two weight classes during the tournament, also lost by fall in the 170.
