Wrestling squad goes undefeated at Bonneville Duals tournament

Pierce Mederios, Hunter McCluskey, Kanoa Doronio, Dylan Park, Taylor Ogaard and Jose Ortiz posted 8-0 records during the two-day tournament .

The Mountain Home Tigers wrestling team went undefeated with six of its varsity players posting flawless records during the Bonneville Duals wrestling tournament Dec. 18 and 19.

Mountain Home and Caldwell both finished the tournament with 8-0 records with the Cougars finishing first overall based on total scores.

Caldwell finished with 517 points with Mountain Home trailing with 506 points. They were the only teams out of the 16 who attended the duals to come away undefeated.

"The varsity team wrestled and battled a tough two-day tournament with four duals each day," said coach Lynn Knudson. "The guys are a little sore after that, but it sure builds on how we will continue to improve over the next couple of months. Got to hand it to the guys that went undefeated... outstanding job."

Those posting 8-0 records at Bonneville were Hunter McCluskey in the 106-pound weight class, Pierce Mederios at 113 pounds, Kanoa Doronio in the 120, Dylan Park at 138, Taylor Ogaard in the 182 and Jose Ortiz at 285 pounds.

Gavin Hazell went 7-1 in the 98-pound division with Tyler Hardin posting the same record in the 145. Those going 5-3 during the tournament were Zach Slack in the 132-pound weight class, Brad Keierleber in the 152 and Andrew Thornburg at 160.

In other tournament results, Juan Rangel went 4-3 in the 220 division and Jayden Sexton was 4-4 at 170. Tim Goodell went 3-5 in the 195 with Dallas Mayhew also going 3-5 at the 126. Mountain Home's varsity squad was missing its varsity competitor in the 195-pound weight class, who was on vacation with his family.

Meanwhile, the Tigers junior varsity team had three wrestlers place at the Wiley Dobbs Junior Varsity Tournament in Twin Falls, but each of them finished first. Those walking away with the honors were Gage Wilson, Alex Castro and Johnathan Kaiser.
