Chester "Chet" J. Tindall, age 95 of Mountain Home, passed away on Aug. 25, 2015, at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 28, 2015, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, and burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Chet was born Jan. 2, 1920, in Mountain Home. He was the third of six children born to Chester and Leota Tindall.

Chet was raised on the family ranch near Grasmere in the primitive frontier of Owyhee County. He started school in 1926 in the new schoolhouse constructed on the ranch.

His education continued there until his second year of high school. In order to complete his education, he ran away from home to attend Boise High School.

He married Jessie Jane Prentice on Oct. 8, 1942, in Boise. They lived at the Tindall Ranch at the old site of Tindall, Idaho, until they moved to Mountain Home in January of 1946. At that time, they bought Brown's Second Hand Store which eventually became Tindall's Furniture Stores.

Chet and Jessie had three children: Ivan, Shannon and Wayne.

Chet and Jessie worked in the stores together until 1967. Chet decided he needed a "hobby" and started his own ranch near C.J. Strike Reservoir and later expanded to Canyon Creek. Together, Chet and Jessie traveled around the world several times over, but Chet's heart was always back at home with his cows.

Chet served on the Board of Directors at Elmore Memorial Hospital and was active in numerous other civic organizations, including the Mountain Home Volunteer Fire Department and Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce. He was a founding member of the Elk's Club and remained a member until his death.

Chet is survived by his daughter, Shannon Tindall-Boyer (Mike); daughter in-laws Jackie Tindall and Susan Tindall; seven grandchildren, Teresa, Lori (Doug), Jason (Chris), Eric, Ivan, Rebecca (Chuck) and Cassandra (Aaron); 14 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Elizabeth McKay. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie; sons, Ivan K. Tindall and C. Wayne Tindall; and siblings, William, Ethel, Robert and James.

Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Luke's Elmore Medical Center.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Doctors Scott Baldridge, Michael Koelsch and Daniel Crossley and to the wonderful and caring staff at St. Luke's Elmore Long Term Care Unit and Medical Center.
