Fueling a love of science

Chad Houck, an instructor with the Discover Technology team, uses wooden blocks to explain basic engineering principles to students at Hacker Middle School during a two-day orientation last week.

The Boise-based team brought a bus filled with an assortment of hands-on displays to promote science, technology, engineering and math in local classrooms.

The team primarily visits schools in the Treasure Valley but has extended its outreach efforts to communities like Mountain Home since its creation in recent years.

Jisela Rangel, Makayla McKinney and Selena Rubio reassemble the organs of a frog during a biology lesson. Made entirely of plastic, the frog and its inner organs were all created using a 3-D printer, which the Discover Technology team showcased during their visit here.
