Stephen Shenk

Stephen L. Shenk was born to Amos and Veola Shenk in Glenns Ferry, Idaho on July 16, 1941. He passed away on Jan. 10, 2015.

He graduated from Glenns Ferry High School and earned an AA degree in industrial arts from Hesston Mennonite College. He married Cora Belle (Corky) McElmurry in Kansas.

In 1966, the couple moved back to Idaho. Stephen worked as a Fullerbrush salesman before moving to Melba to farm. Later, he married Gwen Lowe.

He was active in the Melba community as a volunteer fireman and EMT. He served on the Melba school board. He loved playing fast pitch softball, cheering for Boise State, attending sports games of his children and grandchildren, hunting, fishing, and being with friends and family. He especially loved his coffee shop buddies.

He had a quiet faith and trust in God. Stephen will be dearly missed by his three daughters, Stephanie Watkins (Mark), Coezetta Lopez and Shantell Schweer (Matt); his step children, Skip Lowe (Wendy), Skeeter Lowe (Megan), Chip Lowe (Jacque), Bije Lowe (Amanda) and Ricki Lowe and his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents and his brother, Mark. Stephen is survived by his brothers Dick Shenk (Irma), Chuck Shenk (Jessie), Merv Shenk (Tammy), sister-in-law Debbie Shenk and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Melba Baptist Church with a light meal after at the Melba Senior Center. Stephen donated his body to medical science. The family will have a private interment at a later date.
