District superintendent set to retire

Wednesday, October 29, 2014
When he retires next year, McMurtrey will have spent 35 years as a teacher and an administrator.

Mountain Home Superintendent of Schools Tim McMurtrey has resigned, effective at the end of the school year.

McMurtrey's resignation was tendered to the school district board of trustees last week. The board quickly named deputy superintendent James Gilbert as the man who will replace McMurtrey and lead the district beginning with the next school year.

  • Can the district explain why he needed to resign to retire? Is there a difference in some sort of school/administrative policy if he were to retire rather than resign? Please explain. Could it possibly have something to do with the School Board moving quickly?

  • Why wait till July? Leave now. We will throw a huge party. Do not let the door hit you on the way out.

  • Maybe we can now funnel the exuberant amount of money being spent on administration back to the teachers and classrooms. Also the practice of giving jobs to your friends instead of truly qualified candidates hopefully will go with Tim McMurtrey. Best thing to happen to the school district in 35 years!
