Lady Tigers drop 2 versus Caldwell, Skyview

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers dropped a couple close conference soccer games last week, losing to Caldwell and Skyview.

Caldwell 3, Mountain Home 2

Mountain Home hosted Caldwell last Tuesday to complete the first time through their conference schedule. Despite numerous scoring attempts, they came up short to the Lady Cougars, 3-2.

Caldwell got on the scoreboard first but Mountain Home got a goal from Rachel Johnson in the closing minutes of the first half to go into halftime tied at 1-1.

Caldwell scored two goals in the second half to go up 3-1. Violet Martinez countered with a goal to make it 3-2, but the Lady Tigers were unable to score any more.

Missy Jessup had eight saves on goal.

"Tough loss; a real heartbreaker," said Mountain Home girls soccer coach Kent Ogaard after the game. "It shouldn't have happened.

"We had some hurdles to get over right up front with Christa (Lewis) going out in the Twin Falls game," the coach added. "She injured her left knee. No game or no team rests on the shoulders of one player, so the girls were ready to step up and help out the way they needed to.

"I think the issue today was they just couldn't execute in front of that goal where we needed," the coach said. "With the conference the way it is falling into place, this definitely was one that we needed, and we're going to have to get back."

Skyview 2, Mountain Home 0

The Lady Tigers traveled to Skyview last Wednesday to start the second time through their conference schedule and came up short to the Lady Hawks, 2-0.

Mountain Home was unable to get any shots in the goal. Missy Jessup had 13 saves on goal for the Lady Tigers.

The loss drops Mountain Home to 1-5 in conference and 3-9 overall. The soccer squad hosted Bishop Kelly on Tuesday before traveling to Middleton High School on Thursday, Oct. 2.
