Tennis squad continues to struggle

The Mountain Home Tigers dropped conference tennis matches to Columbia and Middleton last week.

Columbia Girls 5, MH Girls 2

Columbia Boys 6, MH Boys 1

Mountain Home hosted Columbia last Monday and lost to the Wildcats in both girls and boys matches.

Mountain Home's wins in the girls' matches were in girls' singles, as Karina Guadarrama and Kiana Galloway both won. Karina won the second match 6-4, 6-2, and Kiana came through in the third match 7-5, 7-6 (TB 9). Heidi Rawlins lost the first singles match 6-7 (TB 5), 0-6.

In girls' doubles, Mary Martin and Katelyn McKenzie lost the first match 1-6, 1-6 and Emily Gillies and Rubi Martinez lost the second match 1-6, 2-6.

In boys' singles, Austin Griswold picked up Mountain Home's only boys' victory, winning the second singles match 6-1, 7-6 (TB 5). Timothy Austin battled tough, but came up short in the first singles match in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 4-6. Jared Shaw dropped the third match 2-6, 0-6.

In boys' doubles, Brad Foreman and Hayden Draper lost the first doubles match 5-7, 2-6 and Nathan Gibbons and Marc Pelletier lost the second match in three sets, 1-6, 6-1, 2-6. In mixed doubles, Nick Vogl and Kaitlyn Stevens and Mathew McLean and Samantha Feekes were blanked in both doubles matches by 0-6, 0-6 scores.

Middleton Girls 5, MH Girls 2

Middleton Boys 5, MH Boys 2

The Tigers battled Middleton hard, Thursday at Middleton, but ended up losing both the girls' and boys' matches by 5-2 scores.

Mountain Home's win in girls' action came in the third girls' singles, match where Kiana Galloway won in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. Heidi Rawlins lost the first singles match 1-6, 0-6 and Karina Guadarrama lost a tough three-set match in the second singles, 5-7, 6-3, 3-6.

In girls' doubles, Mary Martin and Katelyn McKenzie lost the first doubles match 1-6, 0-6 and Kira Anderson and Rubi Martinez lost the second match 1-6, 0-6.

Mountain Home picked up a point in the mixed doubles second match, where Dalton Barker and Monica Spinazzolo won a wild match in three tie-breaking sets, 7-6 (TB 5), 6-7 (TB 6), 7-6 (TB 2). Nick Vogl and Kaitlyn Stevens lost the first mixed doubles match 3-6, 2-6.

In boys' action, Austin Griswold won the second singles 6-0, 6-3. Timothy Austin dropped the first singles match in a close one, 5-7, 5-7. Nathan Gibbons battled hard in the third match, 5-7, 2-6.

In boys' doubles, Brad Foreman and Hayden Draper lost the first doubles match 3-6, 2-6 and Jared Shaw and Mathew McLean lost the second match 1-6, 2-6.

The Tigers have a busy week this week with three matches at home. They hosted Kuna on Monday, host Emmett on Thursday and host The Community School on Saturday.

Monday and Thursday's matches start at 2 p.m., and Saturday's has an 11 a.m. starting time at the Richard Aguirre Park tennis courts.
