Running for a cause

Friday, October 11, 2013

More than 200 people dash from the starting line to mark the beginning of a fundraiser held Saturday at the Desert Canyon Golf Course.

Known as the Color Run, the event sought to help local residents that lost homes and property during a pair of rangefires that swept through the northern half of Elmore County this summer.

According to initial estimates, the race raised more than $3,400 to benefit these families.

With the race not officially timed, parents often kept pace with their children as they tackled the five-kilometer course.
Isabelle and Ava Johnson take turns dousing each other with colored powder following Saturday's race. As the name implies, the Color Run allowed competitors and bystanders to buy bags of colored corn starch before and during the race. In the spirit of fun, individuals then lobbed the powder at one another.
