Tiger track team sends 10 girls and 6 boys to state

The Mountain Home Tiger track team has qualified ten girls and six boys to this week's State 4A Track & Field Championships at Eagle High School.

The state meet will be held this Friday and Saturday. The athletes qualified by their efforts at last week's District II 4A meet at Emmett.

Bishop Kelly won the 4A District III Girls Track and Field meet, racking up 195 points. Emmett was a distant second with 91.5, Mountain Home was third with 83, Kuna had 71.5, Caldwell 68, Columbia 63, Skyview 60, Middleton 59 and Nampa 22.

Jhorie Kelly qualified in three events for this week's state meet. She won the district high jump competition, finished second in the 100-meter high hurdles, and finished fourth in the 100-meter dash.

Mattie Bennett qualified for state in the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump, finishing fifth in both events at district.

Kristen Kreutzer qualified in both throws, finishing third in the shot put and fourth in the discus at district.

Ashley Harmon and Whitney Sandberg both qualified for state in the 100-meter dash, where they finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Both are also members of the Mountain Home 4 x100-meter relay team, along with Olivia Ostberg and McKenzie Sandberg, which finished second at district.

Other state qualifiers for the girls were Makena Shockley in the 300-meter hurdles, where she placed sixth, Marissa Streeter in the triple jump (third place), and Leeann James qualified in the discus, where she placed third at district.

Six Tiger boys will be competing at state in eight events, after the team's seventh-place finish at district.

Kuna edged Bishop Kelly, 151-150 for the district boys title. Caldwell was a distant third with 71.2 points, Emmett was fourth with 65, Columbia was fifth with 61, Skyview was sixth with 58, Mountain Home seventh with 51.7, followed by Middleton at 48.9 and Nampa with 44 points.

Ryan Eckstrom qualified for state in three events. He qualified in the 110-meter high hurdles (third at district), the pole vault (fifth) and 300-meter hurdles (sixth).

Michael Daniels finished second in the triple jump to qualify for state. He was also a member of the Tiger 4x100-meter relay, along with Nick Garza, Chance Llewellyn and Malik Whitfield, and the 4x200-meter relay with Nick Garza, Chance Llewellyn and Malik Whitfield, both of which finished second at the district meet.

Besides qualifying in the two relays, Whitfield qualified in the 100-meter dash, where he finished third at district.

Mountain Home's other state qualifier was Cody Boguslawski in the discus, where he came in sixth at district.

"The guys and gals are ready to compete at state to cap off a great season of hard work," said Tigers head track coach Rich Urquidi.
