Emergency responders survey the damage to a pickup truck that was sideswiped by a passing commercial vehicle Tuesday afternoon on the interstate.

Two men were injured, one seriously, during a collision involving a pickup truck and a commercial semi Tuesday afternoon on the interstate.

John Elsbury, 57, of Peck, Idaho, remains hospitalized at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise after his pickup truck was sideswiped by a commercial vehicle driven by Amos Rodriguez, 54, of Pocatello.

According to an initial investigation by the Idaho State Police, Elsbury had parked his Dodge 2500 pickup truck on the shoulder of the emergency lane at milepost 120 near Glenns Ferry. Rodriguez was driving eastbound on the interstate when he drove off the roadway onto the shoulder and side swiped the truck around 3:45 p.m.

The reason why the truck veered off the highway remains under investigation.

Elsbury was flown by air ambulance to the Boise-based medical center where he remains in critical condition. Meanwhile, Rodriguez sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Elmore Medical Center in Mountain Home.

Both men were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
