Lady Tigers end season with two more wins

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers closed out their regular season softball schedule with two wins in three games last week.

Lady Tigers 12, Lady Wildcats 6

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to down Columbia 12-6 last Tuesday in conference softball at Memmelaar Field in Mountain Home.

Mountain Home broke open a scoreless ball game with four runs in the third inning.

Columbia, which had pounded Mountain Home 13-4 earlier in the season at Columbia, cut the Lady Tigers' lead to 4-3 in the top of the fourth and, after Mountain Home added two more in the bottom of the fourth to up its lead to 6-3, scored three more in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 6-6.

Not to be denied, the Lady Tigers struck for six runs in the sixth to down the Lady Wildcats 12-6.

"It was a big win on a big three-game week," said Mountain Home Lady Tiger softball coach Chris Asbury.

Madison Siefferman had the hot bat, with four hits, four RBIs and three runs scored. Krissy Elliott, Madi Karst and Morgan Vivier each had two hits. Karst knocked in three runs, Elliott two, and Vivier had a double. Caitlyn Sheehy had a home run and four RBI and Brittany Karst had a double.

Heather Adams went the distance for the win, improving to 14-3 on the season.

Lady Hawks 15, Lady Tigers 2

A nine-run third inning for Skyview helped the Lady Hawks to a 15-2 rout of Mountain Home last Wednesday at Skyview.

Skyview took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. The Lady Tigers tied it with two runs in the top of the third but the Lady Hawks erupted for nine runs in the third to go up 11-2.

Madi Karst took over in the circle for Mountain Home in the fourth.She only gave up one hit, but a walk and three hit batters helped Skyview put it out of reach, 15-2.

"I don't think we were here mentally, and I don't know what it was, but as a coach I've got to take responsibility for that," said Coach Asbury.

Mountain Home only managed six hits against Skyview's Kylie Kennel, with Madison Siefferman and Caitlyn Sheehy both getting two of them. Sheehy had a double and RBI. Krissy Elliott and Morgan Vivier had the other hits.

Mountain Home's Heather Adams was pounded for 11 runs on 10 hits and suffered just her fourth loss against 14 wins.

Lady Tigers 16, Lady Vikings 8

The Lady Tigers closed out their regular season schedule at home against Middleton last Thursday and outscored the Lady Vikings 16-8.

A six-run fourth inning pushed Mountain Home ahead 10-3, but the Lady Vikings struck for four runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 11-8. The Lady Tigers scored five runs in the bottom half of the sixth to make it a 16-8 ball game.

"I think we had a little bit of that hangover from last night (the Skyview loss) carry over into tonight on us," said Coach Asbury. "We've definitely got to do better -- we can't give up eight runs for sure. We haven't had an eight-run win feel down, but that's kind of where we're at right now."

It was Senior night and Mountain Home's lone senior, Rachel Warila, was honored before the game. She responded with three hits, including a double and home run, and drove in five runs.

Madi Karst had four hits, scored three runs and drove in two runs. Krissy Elliott and Courtney Christiansen both had two hits. including doubles. Elliott had two RBIs and Christiansen one. Brittney Karst also had an RBI-single.

Heather Adams went the distance for the win to improve to 15-4 on the season.

The Lady Tigers finished the regular season with an 11-3 mark, tied with Skyview for first in league play, but the Lady Hawks got the number one seed due to the tie-breaker. The two teams split during the season, Mountain Home winning 7-6 and Skyview winning 15-2.

Mountain Home opened its district tourney play Monday at home against Bishop Kelly. District continued Tuesday at the higher seeds and today, May 11, and tomorrow all play will be at Columbia. The district championship game is slated for 5 p.m. Thursday.
