Two arrested in Elmore County on major drug charges

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Elmore County on 10 felony drug charges.

In a criminal complaint released by the U.S. Attorney General in Boise on Wednesday, Cornelio Garcia and Edwardo Lopez face eight counts of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute these illegal narcotics.

Both men face two additional cocaine possession and distribution charges, according to the criminal complaint.

Garcia and Lopez appeared in federal court in Boise, where they were arraigned. Their next court appearance is scheduled for June 7 before Judge Edward J. Lodge at the U.S. District Court in Boise.

It's not known if either man lived in Elmore County at the time of the alleged incidents. Information released by the state attorney general's office indicates that the charges stem from a series of incidents that occurred between October 2010 and February 2011 in Ada and Elmore counties.

According to sources, investigating officers allegedly made several buys totalling tens of thousands of dollars during the course of the six- to eight-month investigation. Allegedly, some buys involved purchases of four to five ounces of methamphetamine at a time with an estimated street value of $1,200 per ounce.

Both men remain in custody at the Elmore County Jail on hold orders issued by the U.S. Marshall's office and federal immigration agencies.

  • Thank the lucky stars that the ECPA will NOT be in charge of this one and that this will be handled by a real PA. Dirt bags.

  • Proudtobeanamerican what you failed to state or rather chose not to share or just was not aware of is that it was created by a German to be used for medical purposes. However, I have read that the illegal manufacture and sale of METH was first controlled by "Outlaw Biker Gangs" nowhere have i read that these gangs were Aryan Nation Members or of German Ancestory or they were here illegally. However, I have read that the two individuals we are commenting on in this article are illegally in the USA. I also know that if they are found guilty of the crime they are charged with, it will end up costing me hard earned money that I come about legally. I am not profiling and I am angry that any of my money is taken to support, even in prison, anyone who has broken a law. As an American, by birth and Native American Ancestory, I feel that we all have to pay to keep bad people off the streets so we can assist in keeping our neighborhoods a little safer. I draw a line though when those I end up paying for should not have been in my Country to begin with.

  • Good job investigators!! Regardless of their citizenship status they have comitted a crime and the law is the law so they will face the consequences. Yes our tax money will pay for this but our tax money pays for all kinds of criminals this is nothing new. That's just the way it is they will have to due time here and eventually be deported. It is unfortunate that knowing they are here illegal they would go and make a living dealing drugs as this stereotypes all illegals the same and that is not the case. I am a proud Mexican put also very proud to be an American citizen we contribute to this country and every year I pay a lot of taxes and personally when and illegal committs a crime they should pay for there crime so that justice is served!

  • Everyone seems more concerned about the mens citizenship..US citizen or not, they are criminals. Elmore County has its fair share of local "legal" methamphetamine users. I have personally seen the horrific destruction this drug does to a person and their family. This was a good bust! Saved lives, families, kids. We need to look at keeping them off the street rather than what side of an invisible line they were born on. I have seen too many users; distributors who serve there 3 months and are right back at it. We need more strick sentencing for Possesion and Distribution of Meth. Mom always told me "Dont point your figner at someone because you always have more fingers pointing back at you." I dont care where they were from, or the taxes that the "good" citizens pay for the jailing. That is what it is there for, the over-all good!! Good catch guys! -Cyn w an Opinion
