Mountain Home may soon join a growing number of cities across southern Idaho housing alternative energy generating facilities.

A proposal introduced during a city council meeting Feb. 28 involves a large-scale solar generating facility capable of producing up to 10 megawatts of electricity for local customers.

Expected to cost up to $45 million, the project planned for Mountain Home mirrors a similar facility already in place near the Boise International Airport. The generating facility in Boise was built on a former city dump west of the airport.
